Week 15 - definitely the happiest baby on the block!

Growing so much!
We have quite the happy, smiley baby these days.  Happiest baby on the block, definitely...although also probably the only baby on the block.  We took Austin's 3 month pictures just a few days after his 'birthday' since we were had been in Philly over the weekend.  I was quite excited to get a smile since thats been a big milestone to mark this past month!  He's gone from the occassional smile to smiling quite a bit....which definitely coincides with his mood.  Gone are the days of the fussy cranky baby...while Austin cries every so often, he is definitely mostly content and happy these days.  We're loving it!

This week was my first official full week back at work with full time daycare, and it got off to a bit of a bumpy start.  Friday night a huge storm system (a "derecho") passed through the city knocking out power for a few days.  We were quite paranoid given the potential for destruction, so we actually grabbed Austin from his crib right before the storm hit and rode out the storm in the basement.  Thankfully, we didn't have any noteworthy damage - although we lost some shingles and siding, a cushion off of our patio furniture, and of course the entire contents of our fridge/freezer.  I was a bit panicked about the stash of frozen breastmilk in the freezer, but thankfully we have an awesome neighborhood and a neighbor with power sent out a message that they had freezer space if anyone needed to store anything.  We called them and rushed over our stash, keeping it nice and frozen while we were without power from Friday night through Sunday.

We were able to escape the heat on Saturday and headed to Black Ankle Vineyard in Mt. Airy, MD with some friends.  The vineyard was beautiful, and the wine was delicious!  Austin was a fabulous baby all day tolerating several car trips and several hours at the winery.

On Sunday we couldn't take the heat anymore (100+ temperatures), so we drove out to Aunt Anita's in Brunswick to visit, stay the night, and enjoy some A/C.  While our power was restored late Sunday, we found out that our daycare still didn't have power so we both stayed home/teleworked Monday so that we could hang with our little guy.

Power was restored to daycare on Tuesday, so the week got back to normal with the added bonus of the holiday in the middle of the week.  Austin and Mike watched a little bowling together on our lazy holiday at home!

Austin seemed pretty in to watching the tournament!
Daycare has gone okay this week.  Austin's not napping quite as well as he does at home, but its getting better as he gets used to it.  He seemed particularly smiley and happy yesterday when I picked him up, and Pratima said he's starting to smile more and follow her and her helper Abby with his eyes.  He's the only baby there at the moment, so he gets lots and lots of attention.  Pratima said he just loves watching the other kids.  She is working with him on sitting up and 'tummy time' as well.  This week he seems to barely struggle to keep his head up when on his tummy and he definitely can push his torso up a bit with his arms.  Its quite cute!  I definitely miss him during the day, but it helps to know that he is a happy baby there!
We've been extremely lucky - since right before our trip to Philly, Austin has not woken up in the middle of the night at all.  He usually sleeps till around 7am, which makes going back to work much easier!  The last few nights we've been amused that he seems to squirm in his sleep enough to make his way towards the other end of his crib.  But last night takes the cake.  I woke up at 5am and looked at the monitor and he was at a 90 degree angle from the way we laid him in his crib for bed.  Two hours later, he turned 90 degrees more and was essentially laying in the opposite direction.  When I went in to get him just a few minutes later he was already on the move towards another 90 degree turn.  It was hilarious!!
started out with my head on the left side of the crib, trying for a 360 degree turn!

I see hours of father/son bowling tournaments in your future.
