Week 16

Well, as I expected, we have alot less pictures to share each week now that I'm back at work and Austin is at daycare.  New this week - the jumperoo!  Last Friday, Pratima said that she put Austin in the 'exersaucer' and he seemed to be pretty interested so when we got home we decided to put ours together.  Its kind of amazing...just a few weeks ago Austin's favorite thing to do was to lay on his playmat and bat at the toys.  And now, he's holding his head up enough that sitting up (assisted, of course) has taken over!!

We didn't think he's be interested in the 'toys' on the jumperoo, but amazingly enough he will at least spin things and seems to concentrate pretty hard at the lights that light up!

Since his feet didn't really touch the ground, we added a pillow underneath so that he can experience the 'jumping' action.  Its really cute watching him play - we even caught a pic of him smiling!

Daycare continues to go really well.  We started cloth diapers at daycare this week, and they don't seem to mind using them so we are, at the moment, fully committed to using them.  Other than the massive poopy diaper he had this week that made things pretty nasty, its been pretty easy!  Another handy use for cloth diapers?  For swimming!  Turns out that you can use the outer diaper without the stuffed insert in the pool.  We've been wan ting to go to the pool all summer, but other plans and the weather have kept us away.  Yesterday we finally went for the first time, and we really enjoyed it.  Our community pool has a kiddie pool thats only a few inches deep.  Of course, we held on to him as we sat him in the water.  He seemed to really  like it though and kicked and splashed a bit and 'talked' to the other kids as they walked by.  We probably spent at least 30 minutes in the water!  Thankfully it was a bit of a cloudy day and a nearby pergola left one side of the pool pretty shaded.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we'll hit the pool a few more times this summer. 

In other news, we ventured out attempting to meet other new parents this weekend.  I used meetup.org to create a group for new working parents in our county since most new moms/parents groups that I could find were all organized by stay at home moms and mostly consisted of weekday activities.  I was surprised that several people showed interest in the group, and a handful of women and their kids came to a meet and greet that I set up at a local coffee shop on Saturday.  It was an interesting cross section of people, and probably not any life-long friends but everyone seemed to have a good time.  We'll call that a success!  I set up another family friend event at a local winery in a few weeks, so we'll see if anyone shows up.  At the very least its fun to meet other new working parents in the area!
