We put it off for a while, but this weekend we offiically went arms free at night out of the swaddle. And, as it turns out, I think we probably should have done this a few weeks ago because he did just fine and even seemed to sleep better! All week Austin was rolling onto his tummy early in the morning and then screaming because he couldn't flip back. That was our cue to at least have his arms free. The first few nights he woke up multiple times after having rolled over and startled himself. But, now he seems to roll over, fall back asleep, and be perfectly content. Thankfully, Woombie makes a convertible swaddle that looks just like the original but has snaps at the arms to let them be free. Seems like the perfect transition from full swaddling!
We had quite the good week this past week. Austin is exploring a bit of independent play these days. If you put him on the floor, he almost immediately rolls over and starts playing with whatever you put in front of him. Since he woke up a early a few times this week, we let him play in his room on the floor while we finished getting ready for work. Its quite cute to see him playing with his toys all by himself! He's also started sticking his tongue out quite a bit, it makes for a ridiculously cute expression.
Still no huge luck on solid foods. I think he just isn't a fan of cereal, so perhaps we'll try just sticking with fruits and veggies. Its hard to try too hard since he doesn't seem to care either way. Once we officially hit 6 months we'll step it up a notch and probably let daycare take a shot at it.
We kicked off our Labor day weekend with a gathering of the working parents group that I organized. Its been a shocking success. I think we had at least 10-15 people show up for a stroller walk through Brookside gardens Saturday morning. We looked hilarious taking over the sidewalk with our stroller parade.
We have 6 more events coming up in the next month and a half. I'm excited, there seems to be alot of interest in the group and we've met a few fun couples that we're getting to know. Afterwards we grabbed a beer with our neighbors and their little guy, Boston. Austin needs to take some lessons from Boston though because he had a melt down about 30-40min in to our lunch. The poor guy gets tired and won't nap unless he's in a crib, car, or occassionally the stroller. But, it was still a fun afternoon out.
We even decided to trek into the city to a baseball game since the Cardinals were in town. We had a slight fear that Austin wouldn't do well. To our surprise, he loved it! The stadium is really family friendly with plenty of outdoor space to walk around. And I think he was just amazed at everything he could look at from our upper deck seats. Granted, we were only there for a few innings - but we'd totally do it again.
I wish I had a good pic of our little guy sitting up. Its so impressive that just 2 weeks ago he was falling over so quickly and now he can steady himself quite well. He's also quite strong on his belly:
Off to the beach on Thursday with the Duong's and Stuckey's. Looking forward to a long weekend with friends!
