Since daycare closed again this November we decided to take advantage of it and plan a week long vacation. Rentals in the Outer Banks are a bargain this time of year, and with no plane flight required it seemed like the perfect easy and relaxing vacation. Temps were only in the 50s and 60s, but there were still plenty of beach views and local sites to check out! Our rental was in the heart of Duck, walking distance to the beach, shops, restaurants, and sound-side boardwalk. It even came with a Radio Flyer wagon which was a big hit!
We took a few daytrips, some with Grandma and Austin and some just by ourselves during naptime. The Elizabethan Gardens were beautiful and fun to stroll through:
On one of the cooler days, we went to a small Aquarium, which was the perfect size for Austin. Cool fish to see, but not too overwhelming!
Austin enjoyed the sea turtle exhibit. He didn't exactly know what he was doing, but he got to simulate testing the turtle to see if he was sick and then cure him and put him back into the sea.
The stingrays were very cool. Austin was a little freaked out when they swam up close to him, but he seemed to like watching them swim by...and splashing his hands in the water.
By the end of the trip, we think Austin was a little tired of fish. One of the last things we saw was the giant shark tank, and as you can see below, he wasn't too interested!
The rest of our trip we mostly spent at the house relaxing, in town checking out the local dining scene, or at the beach. Austin had his first lesson in Air hockey, which turned out to be pretty fun (until he started throwing the pucks everywhere!).
We had lots of story time...
And of course, had a blast at the beach, even in the cooler weather!
All in all, a fabulous relaxing fall vacation. Can't wait to do it again!
