We weren't sure how Halloween was going to go...costumes, darkness, dressed up kids - I had a feeling that Austin wasn't going to have too much fun this year. The day started out fun though - Austin loved the giant pumpkin that I picked up on the Eastern Shore and was quite amused when he saw it Halloween morning all carved up with a kitty cat. He actually meowed and pointed at it and seemed to like the idea of getting his picture taken with it! He was the only kid at daycare that had any Halloween spirit, I couldn't resist the skeleton sweatshirt.
To make trick or treating more fun, we had Jesse and Boston over to join in the festivities. At the very least we could all hand out candy at our house. Turns out, the boys seemed to have a great time for their first trick-or-treating! Funny enough, both boys went to daycare as skeletons!
But the transformed into a Monkey and a Shark after dinner. It was nearly impossible to keep the animal hoods on their heads, but that's okay. And after going to a few houses, Austin also decided that he didn't want to wear pants:
The boys loved ringing doorbells, they actually held their candy baskets/bags as they walked, and when given a treat they both understood that they should put it in their basket/bag. We were quite surprised!
The trick part of trick-or-treating was the flying bat that we hung above the front porch. The boys were a bit mesmerized and freaked out by the bat...and it was a huge hit with trick or treaters. You had to duck to avoid the bat attacking you!
Austin definitely checked out his loot when he came back to the house. We gave him pieces of a reeces peanut butter cup, which of course he gobbled up. Throughout the night he'd pull other peanut butter cups out of his pumpkin and just suck on the wrapper hoping to get a taste. I'm not sure if he realized that everything else was chocolate too - or if he just recognized the orange wrapper.
