The weekend before Christmas we took a trip up to Baltimore to visit the B&O Railroad Museum. We've been wanting to go for a while, and this time of year they have a special Christmas display and Santa so it seemed like a great time to go. We had such a great time walking around the train displays, climbing aboard display trains, riding Austin's first train ride, and seeing Santa!
Austin was pretty surprised to see Frosty the Snowman on the train. He gave him a high five as he passed by!
We thought getting photos with Santa would be a disaster. Thankfully, while I waited in the long line - Austin and Mike wandered the train displays and continued to have a great time. When it was our turn I loaded Austin up with Grandma's secret treat (aka bribe): a graham cracker. There was no fussing at all, and we even got in a great smile. The best part? You could take your own picture, so no mall photo rip off this year!
We also spent a day in DC enjoying the sites. We started at the National Building Museum to check out the Children's Building Zone. Knocking over giant lego towers was fantastic fun!
We walked by the Capitol
and of course stopped to throw some rocks in the water!
and before heading home, took a look at the National Christmas Tree...
One of the things we wanted to do this year was have a train under the Christmas tree. Mike picked out what he wanted - an LGB scale train like he had when he was a kid. We thought it would be fun to set it up Christmas eve after Austin went to bed so that it would be a surprise in the morning.
It was an instant hit (with Julian too)! We probably didn't even get to presents until at least 10am because the train was that cool (and Austin didn't really even know what presents were).
It didn't take long for Austin to figure out that Daddy was controlling the train and he eventually took over the controls (and has ever day since).
It actually took us several days to open all of the gifts (actually, there are still a few left that might get put in a closet until his birthday). But, lots of fun was had. We didn't take too many pictures, but here are a few:
Cupcakes (with interchangeable cake/icing combinations)
Some cool go-go smart cars
A tricycle!!
A tea set
Good till the last drop!
A fun car:
