Well, blogging hasn't been the top thing on my mind lately so I'm quite a bit behind. I thought I'd do a quick round up of what we've been up to this fall/winter. We'll see how quick I actually am - turns out looking back at pictures we've been up to quite a bit!
We've been putting on puppet shows (or Austin shows):
Playing with trains (of course). The train table was an early Christmas present since you really can't hide it, and its been alot of fun!
Learned to climb over the back of the couch (funny, fun, and slightly stressful)
Making messes constantly...
And learning about static electricity. Yep, thats Austin's hair after crawling through a tunnel made out of the couch, ottoman, and fleece blanket.
We had Thanksgiving with both grandparents. Sticking with the train theme we took a few trips to some local holiday train displays:
We played in snow!! It didn't really snow much last year and we never took Austin out in it (not that he would have noticed anyway). The first real snow was a few weeks ago and schools/daycare were closed, so we went out for a snow walk! Austin wanted nothing to do with boots or snowpants on our first attempt, but since it wasn't that cold we figured it didn't matter too much. He was definitely intrigued by the snow!
At first he was skeptical about sledding. But, once he saw Mike go down once he was smiling and laughing and wanting to take a ride. We started out easy on our front slope:
And then went to the back yard for the long hill!
The second day we actually got Austin to wear his new boots. Alot of snow had melted, but we strolled through the neighborhood and then down by the pond.
The pond is Austin's obsession. Mostly because there is a little 'beach' area with tons of rocks and he loves to throw them into the pond.
And no, Mike is not throwing him into the water...just being a giant daddy swing as Austin giggled and asked for 'more'.
After Thanksgiving we got into the holiday spirit by going to the lights at Brookside Gardens. We had a surprise warm evening and headed there after work one night. Brookside's lights display is unique because you can walk through it instead of drive through it like alot of the other displays around here.
In an effort to simply things at home, avoid shopping for a Christmas Tree in the rainy weather, and avoid sharp and shedding needles - we changed our normal Christmas tradition and bought a fake tree this year. We had fun pulling out the lights and decorations and seeing Austin's reactions.
The tree has been a big hit. Every morning Austin would come downstairs and insist that we turn it on. At first he kept pulling the ornaments off and handing them to us, but the novelty has worn off a bit so they finally have been able to stay hanging on the tree.
We're not sure how the obsession with Frosty the Snowman started...but it has stuck around all holiday season. We have quite a few Frosty's in the house, and Austin loves them. Possibly more than Santa...not sure he's figured out who Santa is yet.
And thats about it. Guess that wasn't that quick of a recap. I'll leave you with Austin's latest expression...somehow he has captured 'mischevious' in one look:
