Catching up

Despite an empty blog for a while, we've actually been keeping ourselves pretty busy this fall! In September we spent a weekend in Minneapolis visiting our friends Kim and Nick. We hit up a corn maze for some classic fall fun and even played a few of
the kids games at the farm:

We also went for a hike at Taylor's Falls to see the giant 'Potholes'. The hike was quite impressive...we enjoyed the views and the odd geologic formations:

Afterwards we taught Kim and Nick to play one of our favorite sports - Disc Golf. They were both pretty good - we're looking forward to playing with them again!

Shortly after our trip, we flew out to St. Louis for our friend Kevin's wedding. We were lucky enough to have some good weather while we were in town, and finally went biking on the Katy trail. The trail was awesome:

Mike and I made things a little more exciting by renting a tandem bike. We were inspired by a couple we met on the Western Maryland Rail Trail...and although it took a little getting used to - we loved it!

Trying to get in as much biking as possible before winter hits, a few weeks later we drove out to the Washington and Old Dominion trail in Northern Virginia to check it out. Not as pretty as some of the Maryland trails, but definitely fun! Mike couldn't help but love the path-side bbq restaurant along the way!

Great views along the way!

We decided to repeat a fall activity from last year, one that we hope to make a tradition: a fall trip to the beach! Last year shortly after moving we had the chance to go to VA beach on the tail end of one of my work trips. Its dirt cheap and not crowded this time of year - perfect for a quick weekend. This year we had no Halloween plans and our porch lights were burnt out (so no kids would be trick or treating) so we took advantage of a warm weekend and drove down to VA Beach! We started out with a nice dinner on the boardwalk:

And then the next day drove to the southern part of VA beach to one of the more secluded beaches:

Night at the beach was a little spooky when the fog rolled in - perfect for Halloween!

We finished up the trip by driving home through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Hard to snap a picture of - but its quite a drive from the VA Beach area to Maryland's eastern shore via greater than 20 miles of bridges and tunnels!

In November our friends Jim and Colleen came to visit us from Raleigh, NC. We celebrated Colleen's birthday at The Palm and then went to see The Capitol Steps, a great musical comedy group downtown. Apparently we have no pictures of us all together - but here's a pic of us on a hike at Great Falls that weekend.
