Western Maryland Adventure

It was a beautiful sunny day this past sunday, so we packed up the car with the road bikes and set out for the Western Maryland Rail Trail. The best part of this trail is that its paved! At a full 22 miles, its one of the longest uninterupted paved trails within day-tripping distance. We hadn't biked the trail yet, but we had been to one end of the trail earlier this year. It was at the end of the trail that Mike proposed back in January when we were spending the weekend in WV/MD!

Here's us at our engagement spot (this time trading the winter jackets for some attractive bike shorts and helmets!

The trail parallels the C&O canal towpath bike trail and the Potomac River. It was a little taste of fall, as the leaves were just beginning to change. This shot is from a bridge on the path looking out at an old bridge on the C&O canal.

This was our longest ride together (44mi), and Lisa's longest ride ever. Mike took some video to show us cruising!

There's a quaint town, Hancock, in the middle of the ride where we stopped to have lunch on the way out. When we stopped through on our way home, we decided to have a snack while sitting at a park by the water. We were pretty surprised to come across the Traveling Piano This guy and his dog apparently travel across the continent and, well, he plays his piano out of the back of his truck. Its pretty impressive!

Many hours later, and many sore muscles later we finished.

Next up on the bike trips - The Big Savage Tunnel in the Great Allegheny Passage...if it doesn't get too cold too quickly!
