The main reason we wanted to go to the eastern shore was that we were certain we could find some awesome kayaking. Because of the Chesapeake inlets, Maryland has over 7000 miles of coastline! This trip, however, we opted for the Pocomoke River which empties into the Chesapeake. The Pocomoke runs right through the state park and has several creeks which spur off of the main river. We learned on the signage that this river is one of the deepest in the world for its width!
The wind and current kept pushing us around when we would stop paddling - here we are amidst the greenery along the sides of the river.
Great views...
Mattaponi Creek - a little offshoot of the main river.
Corkers Creek - a mile loop near the campground
After finishing a few hours of kayaking, we took a short day trip to Ocean City Maryland.
On one part of the beach we found a ton of HUGE hermit crabs (I didn't know they got this big). After reading up on it, it appears that they had come to the beach to spawn...kind of lucky to get to stumble upon this:
After some boogie boarding, kite flying, and of course mini golf, we decided to stick around for the beach fireworks. The night before we had seen fireworks in the small quaint town of Snow Hill, MD. It was actually kind of refreshing to see a non-crowded traditional small town fireworks display. The beach fireworks were quite the contrast. There was plenty of space, so it still didn't feel crowded - but the display was quite impressive. We were so close to where the fireworks were actually set off, that they essentially lit up directly over our head! You could even watch pieces drift down into the ocean right next to us - it was quite a treat!
Lisa getting ready to watch the fireworks from the beach!

They are actually called horseshoe crabs, not hermit crabs. It's okay Mike, we all make mistakes.
