Leaf Peeping

This past weekend, we took a day trip out to Shenandoah National Park to do some good 'ole fashioned Leaf Peeping. Of course, Mike hadn't ever heard of leaf peeping so I had some explaining to do when the phrase came out of my mouth. It made me realize that I've only ever laughed at the concept of going for a drive specifically to look at fall colors, and here I was excited to go! Especially because we bought an annual national park pass this year while still living in AZ, and we were excited to have a place somewhat close by to use it. Shenandoah has a gorgeous road, called Skyline Drive, that snakes through the ridge of the mountains. It was an impressively clear day, so the views were amazing. We got out a few times and hiked to some vistas. The picture on the right is us standing on the Appalachian Trial...first time for both of us, and I'm pretty sure we'll have to check out other portions of the Trail at some point. Here's a slide show of pictures from the drive and hikes:

And last but not least, we never go on a day trip with just one place to see. We set out initially to also go to a corn maze while we were road tripping, but had very little luck locating one in route. So, we ended up checking out a Garden Maze instead. I was very excited, I had images of the garden maze in The Shining. This one was quite a bit more cheesy than that (you could see through some of the bushes), but it deserves quite a bit of credit for entertaining us quite a bit. Turns out, it was pretty tough to navigate:
