This week we celebrated Austin's 4 month birthday AND our 3 year anniversary! No big night out or big trip for us this year, but we did cook a delicious dinner and indulged in a strawberry/chocolate mousse cake from a nearby bakery. We're planning on taking a day off from work together sometime in the next week or so to spend a day together....its been a while, so we're looking forward to it!
We had a great weekend seeing friends. Saturday we met my old neighbor Becky for brunch at a cool local bar near her house in DC. Her husband snagged little Tommy for an impromptu road trip to grandma's, so we didn't get to see them this time. Austin seemed to enjoy the bar....I still need to photoshop the pics we took because the lighting was strange, but we couldn't help crack up at the sight of little Austin on the giant leather couch where we were seated:
Afterwards we went up to Columbia to get in some quality grocery shopping at Wegmans. Its silly, but having a new Wegmans just 20-25min away is pretty exciting. If you've ever been to one, you'd understand. Austin and I took a seat in the lounge upstairs for a bottle while daddy shopped. As you can see, he's been sporting the mohawk moreso than the combover these days. There's no taming this kids hair!!
On Sunday we went out to LaGrange Winery in Haymarket, VA to meet up with an old college friend from Upenn. Nicole and Ben had little Augie in January of this year. I hadn't seen Nicole in many years, so it was really fun catching up. The weather was finally cooler, and it turned into such a great day for a picnic and some bottles of wine. Augie and Austin had a great time on the blanket playing together (even if Austin has a pretty serious look on his face):
This week we had Austin's official 4 month peditrician appointment. He's growing and growing - now 17.5lbs, 26.5in somewhere around the 92nd percentile! He was a trooper again and handled his shots with very few tears. And of course, like his last visits he seemed very playful on the exam table:
I'm pretty sure by his next visit, he'll be trying to roll off - based on his attempts this time:
Its fun to watch him change, and we constantly have to remind ourselves when he's behaving out of the ordinary that its because he's older and interestd in different things. For example, bottle feeding. It used to be a pain and he was a crazy fussy guy with the bottle. Then, it became very easy and he'd take the whole bottle down without much fussing. Now, he's getting distracted by things around him and he's really exploring things with his hands. Not that he can really hold the bottle, but he now intentionally grabs at it and if he gets ahold of it, will try to put the nipple in his mouth. Its pretty cute, even if it makes his bottles take longer. We're maxed out the 8oz bottles, and he's been drinking 8oz 5x/day this week. The pediatrician gave us the go ahead to start solids, so we'll have to figure out how we want to add that into our routine.
Lastly, speaking of discovering things with his hands more and more - we were quite proud parents the other night when he was in his jumperoo. It was the first time we had seen him deliberatly spin this toy, very cute!! (And sorry for the sideways video - haven't figured out how to edit that yet!)
