Demolition on hot summer days

This weekend instead of taking advantage of cheap summer golf rates, we decided to start tackling the kitchen remodeling project. Alot of people have said that they like the hard wood floor in the kitchen -- but we disagree. So, for anyone who's wondered how difficult it is to remove hard wood floor -- its not so bad! A few hours of prying it up with a very large crowbar (the guy at Ace Hardware asked us if we were getting into the burglary business when he saw what we were going to buy!), a little time with the shop vac, and now we have a nice clean cement floor (and a huge pile of wood in the back yard!). Unfortunately the fireplace tile removal wasnt as easy as expected, so thats still a work in progress.

On a side note -- if you were ever curious, Yes -- cats can swim!! Julian has this ongoing mission to catch a bird in our yard. A few days ago when the bird swooped low Julian jumped straight up in the air and almost grabbed him. I think the bird was trying to get him back this weekend -- he swooped low and landed on the other side of the pool. Well, Julian took off after him, diving straight into the pool!! We slightly panicked, but he swam out and didn't even get his face wet. He was pretty traumatized though. I wish we had a video of it -- it was pretty hilarious. Instead, here's Julian cuddling with a beach towel that we used to dry him off -- I think he's ready for more swimming!
