I know the picture say's 'Just Born', but 1 week old is close enough. I was delighted when we recieved Austin's first piece of mail this week. My friend Sam sent him a welcome home gift - these adorable stickers to use to capture his monthly milestones. Its hard to believe that its already been a week, time flew by for sure! We have definitely settled into a bit of a routine, although I am sure that Austin will switch that up on us soon. We feel very lucky that he's a good eater and good sleeper - we actually usually get about 6hrs of sleep a night and feel pretty rested each day. Here's what we were up to these past few days:
- Sunday I was getting a bit stir crazy sitting around the house (I'm not allowed to drive for 2 weeks), so we went out on our first outing. Mike wanted to make an indian meal from scratch for dinner so we headed out to Whole Foods to get some crazy spices. Austin was a trooper, sleeping most of the way. Once home, Mike cooked up some Aloo Gobi - it was quite the success for our first Indian cooking experience.

- Before dinner we tried out the Ergo baby carrier and went on a short walk through the neighborhood. The pain at my incision has finally started to subside, so I was very excited to get out of the house for a bit and get some very light exercise. Austin seemed to snuggle up just fine in the Ergo, and slept the whole time. I'm pretty sure we'll get some good use out of it once I'm fully recovered - its alot easier than lugging around a stroller on a walk!
- We had our first at home pee incident when changing Austin's diaper. We had to laugh, but the poor little guy got himself right in the face before we could cover it up and get it under control! After a quick bath, he was good as new.
- We tried the playmat again on Monday. You know you're first time parents when you video your baby batting at an object on a playmat. But seriously, we were amazed when he started batting at the lowest dangling toy over and over again. It seemed like actual 'playtime'. Very cool.
- Austin's umbilical cord stump fell off Monday! We've been waiting for this so that we can start learning to use our cloth diapers. Given the number of diapers we go through in a day, we're hoping we like the cloth diapers and can cut down on the massive amount of diaper trash!
- We had our first visitors Monday night - Cousin Andy and his girlfriend Nikki came by and brought us dinner from Buca de Beppo. We had a great visit - Austin stayed quite awake to entertain them. Austin sure hopes that he gets to meet other family members soon too!
- Austin had is 10 day old pediatrician appointment today. We were excited to see that he has surpassed his birth weight. The doctor said due to this weight gain, and the fact that he's feeding well - we can let him sleep longer at night as long as we make up the feedings during the day. Thats something we're definitely looking forward to - he's so hard to wake up for feedings that it will be nice to let him sleep!
